Play Therapy

Play Therapy

You have a great kid. Your kid is awesome; they love big, they make you laugh, they have so much personality, and in some moments, they are the absolute best! Then something happens, and suddenly, that little person you love tremendously turns into someone you no longer recognize. They have huge emotions and aren’t quite sure how to deal with those big emotions in their little bodies. They scream, punch, and say things you know they don’t mean. They get angry, anxious, frustrated, and hateful. It happens at the drop of a hat and leaves you feeling alone and overwhelmed. You are left wondering if they hate you, if this is trauma, and feeling like you are walking on eggshells. You aren’t sure what to do; you fear you are failing as their parent. There are tears, both yours and theirs.

These big emotions are overwhelming, and they wreck your plans and your heart. You are frustrated and questioning if you are failing your child. You know your child has been through so much in their short life. They’ve experienced trauma, loss, unexpected changes, and there is so much they don’t fully understand. You want to help, you want peace in your house, and you want more of that awesome kid you love so much. You just aren’t sure how to get it.

I can help, I’m April and I’m a therapist that uses play to come along side kids and their grown ups to learn how to make sense of their stories and better handle their big emotions! At Pieces of Clay, I help kids understand what is going on in their bodies, learn and identify their emotions, build healthier coping skills to handle those big emotions, and process trauma in fun and playful ways. I understand how your child’s story and trauma have impacted your child’s brain, overtakes them, and how it can disrupt your family. Working with you, we can empower your child to thrive, better your relationship, and give you the skills to know how to help your child. Using play, activities, and a lot of fun, I can help your child learn better ways to express themselves, manage their emotions, and own their story. If you are ready to help your child and to stop letting their big emotions wreak havoc on your family so that you can enjoy more great moments with your awesome child, call me at 205-538-3652 or email me at [email protected] for a FREE 15-minute consultation to discuss if I am the right therapist for your child. I would love to get you scheduled.

Rates & Payment

Private pay: Each therapy session is billed at $125. Most clients pay via a card on file for convenience. I am also able to accept cash, HSA funds, all major debit and credit cards. If you have any questions about payments, please let me know. My hope is that costs of services would not prevent anyone from receiving the help they need. Therefore, I have some sliding scale spots available for those who qualify. If you believe you may benefit from a sliding scale, please reach out to me to determine availability.

Insurance

I am currently able to accept AL Medicaid for children under 19 years of age.
